When choosing a light fixture for your space, it's important to get the size right and get adequate amount of light.
Chandeliers
Add the length and the width of your room to get the right size for your chandelier.
Example: Your room length is 12 feet and your room width is 10 feet. Your chandelier diameter should be 22"
If you are planning to install your chandelier in a high ceiling space, add 1" for every foot above 9 feet.
Example: Your foyer is 10 feet long by 10 feet wide and ceiling height is 19 feet. Your chandelier diameter should be 30" (10 + 10 + 19 - 9)
If you are planning to install the chandelier above your dining table, same rules apply, but your chandelier diameter should fall within one half to three quarters of your dining table width.
Example: Your dining room is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide. Your dining table is 48" wide. When you take the dining table width into consideration, your ideal chandelier size would be 24" in diameter.
It's recommended to install dining room chandeliers so that chandelier's bottom is about 30" above your dining table.
